The 7th edition of the Al Mouj Muscat Marathon was held on the 18th and 19th January 2018, a total of 6,094 runners have participated of whom 2,374 were children. The Al Mouj Muscat Marathon featured different running categories from the Kids Run, the 42K Full-Marathon, the Half-Marathon, 10K run and the 5K charity fun run. Keller has participated in the 5K charity relay run where every runner in a team had to complete a 5K run. This run was to specifically support and create more awareness for the Oman Diabetes Association.
Worldwide, diabetes afflicts more than 380 million people. The World Health Organization estimates that by 2030, the number of people suffering from the disease will more than double. In Oman, over 14% of the population is currently living with diabetes. With the figure in the Sultanate rising, it is fitting that the charitable organization chose to benefit from this year’s Al Mouj Muscat Marathon Charity 5K run.
This year’s participants list had runners from over 86 countries with majorities from India, United Kingdom, Philippines, France, South Africa and the US.
